Hudson Street Apartment
New York, New York
2007
The apartment is located on the top floor of a landmarked brick building in Tribeca. In this renovation, we reconfigured the living and kitchen areas to provide more functional and better articulated zones of occupation for living and working from home. The arched window perimeter walls of the apartment were highlighted and modified by providing continuous window seating and uniform lighting in the living room. The thick exposed masonry walls separating the kitchen from the dining area were painted to highlight the cut through which one passes to get into the smaller built in kitchen. The kitchen is configured in a āuā to maximize the countertops and equipped with appliances and storage hidden behind wood and translucent glass panels. The rich teak wood cabinets and colorful mosaic tile provided a playful and refined counterpoint to simple white textured masonry walls and large arched windows in the living areas. A study room opens into the living room to provide a flexible space that can be used as a spare guest room by enclosing sliding partition.
